The Rods managed by Dave Unsworth are currently 5th in 1-1-1.He is in very good form having won 8 and drawn 3 of his last 11 games.He is a previous winner of the ICC and runner up in both the ICC and Champions Shield.He is another manager who obviously has a large trophy cabinet.As i've previously stated Nick and his Rangers need no introduction.He is top of 2-1-1 and is also in good form having an identical record as the Rods in his last 11 games.He has won 2 Shields,3 ICC and 3 Elite with 4 runner-up spots.As well as the Elite he is also in the q/finals of the Champions Shield.Their only meeting this season ended in a 1-0 win for the Rods.I'll go for the same result a win for the Rods.

Friendly League - Division 1 - Day 18
People must be wondering about if Nick is going to win this league for the 4th time. With 12 games till the end he is leading the table and with his team in great form. He is the only one present in all seasons in Division 1, and is the team with more wins.
Two teams are after him, both have won the league once, Floriana and Biscuit Barell. Byron Park is a little bit bellow, followed by Arkansas.
On the bottom we can see 4 teams in a lot of trouble, but one of them will escape, the other three dont... Its with suprise that we see HarriCam between these 4 teams.
12 games to go, so a lot of things can happen. Let´s wait and see.

Third round of the Elite Cup was played last night. A few big games, especially three of them. I guess that the biggest games was the one between Anfield Rd Rangers and Floriana. Anfield didn´t give a chance to Floriana, and beat him by three goals.
Northwest Rags beat Winter Milan thanks to a goal in extra-time, but the win was deserved.
Another big game between FC Haag Utd and YourHavingaLaff F.C, wich was won by the Conf 8 team.

1st tie sees an all 2-1-1 battle.Winter Milan currently under caretaker manager Dave Walker are 4th in 2-1-1 and noticeably have not played any PL's this season only a full set of friendlies,though they are still in the Champions Shield.Their opponents Northwest Rags are 3rd in 2-1-1 and apart from Smokey FL3 also only play a full set of friendlies.Their only meeting this season ended in a 2-1 win for the Rags.A difficult game to call but i'll go for another away win for the Rags

The Barrell's are impressively 15 out of 15 at the top of 5-1-1,3rd in Smokey FL1,still in the Champions Shield and are No.1 in the Manager's Table.He has been a runner-up in all 3 major's.The Villains are 2nd in 2-1-1 and 6th in Smokey FL3.Interestingly they are 2nd in the Manager's Table.The most difficult tie to call,but i have to go for Biscuit Barrell possibly with a Golden Goal in extra-time.

Interview with Ron Rankine (Kookaburra & Queenslander)
If there are legends in the Smokey server, Ron must be one of them for sure. Playing this game since 2001, Ron is managing two teams in this server: Kookaburra on Conference 4, wich is on top flight for 56! seasons, and Queenslander on Conference 1, wich is on top flight for 42 seasons. With those both teams, Ron has won a little bit of every competition, and with kookaburra he is current leader of Conf.4. With Queenslander he is currently on 8th position in FL3.
The Sunday League Blog visited him on Brisbane (Australia) and made him some questions.
How is the season going?
At best competitive
10 seasons without winning Conference 4. Do you think you can do it this time?
No - thanks for pointing that out - probably this question is what this manager needs to move out of the comfort zone - but a lot of the personal challanges are a distant memory - if i hang on for a division 4 win a lot of conference 4 managers will not be very happy with you
Who are your biggest opponents in Conference 4?
whoever is above me in the ladder
What about Conference 1, what are your expectations for the season?
To be there next season
What is the hardest competition at the moment in SL?
Friendly leagues - best concept for eons and probably saving sundayleague and full credit must go to the management committee
How far do you think you can reach in the Friendly League?
Beleive i am in the correct division for the players i purchase and lack of research for each game
In your opinion who are the best teams in the server?
i am afraid i cannot answer that - shame really - as i am suspect to all teams that put the effort in and my major opponents are long gone
Did you spend some time preparing the most important games?
minimum required - i.e. setting up teams with correct players in position - not a lot of research on opposition if at all
How is your interest in the game at the moment?
reasonable - enjoy the game - but have stoped playing friendlies
What do you think the game needs, to make people more happier?
i'm probably one who believes the game is very competitive and rewards are there for the taking - but i do not believe there is value in the transfer market - and possibly management are willing to let the game roll along with no innovations or fixing some faults that have crept in
How long are you playing the game?
Do no plan to retire - think kookaburra have been here since end of 2001
What was your biggest moment in SL?
Can not remember if i did this but winning top division plus 2 major cups plus world cup in the one season would satisfy any player

The Quarters of the ICC were played today, with several big games played.
Two teams that i think it will be favorites to win this competition won their games easily. Anfield against Ramsgate Reds, and Byron Park against Cubana Villains.

Basketcase Introduces Himself
Hi all, First I would like to thank Chico for allowing me access to the blog and hope that I can repay that faith/trust with some 'entertaining' write-ups of various cups and happenings, especially in the best conference, Conference 6.
A little SL history about me.
I first starting playing way back in Sept 2004. First on Moggy and then (by request of my oldest) a couple of months later on PTV3. As time went by I inherited/created teams on PTV1, PTV2 and Planet Football (which shutdown just as my team were getting good).
The enforced move to Smokey gave me the opportunity to 'take a back seat' for a while to rejuvenate my enthusiasm for the game and stagger the team building process so that I could specialize my training.

The Lady Luck Cup
With roots stretching back to the old Moggy server this is a competition originally created by Gaz _Wirral Warriors (a guy I remember who SHOUTED HIS PM’S AT YOU as his keyboard was always set on Caps Lock.)
A competition attracting teams of all levels and standards for an initial 32 teams split randomly into four groups of eight. The eight teams in each group battle it out in a mini league with the top two from each and the two best runners-up making up a ‘champions’ league of ten, which then contest to find the eventual champion.
It ran over many seasons and soon developed a prestige about it, as managers battled it out to get the coveted cup in their trophy cabinet.
The competition has now been re-introduced on Smokey by Mick _ Fat Kids on a Diet and has recently ran and completed it’s first season with fr3nchy _ Byron Park FC becoming the first holder.
Smokey Lady Luck Season 1
The first Lady Luck Cup on Smokey attracted some high calibre teams, which created some fierce competition in the group stages as they all fought to gain a place in the champions league.

An unusual occurrence happened in that 4 teams from group B made it to the next stage as the group had the two best runners-up. (that’s lady luck for you!) I very much doubt that will happen again.
The first champion was not decided until the very last day when the top two played each other in a winner takes all. Group C runners-up Byron Park went on to win and therefore crowned winners of the 1st Lady Luck Cup.

Conference 7 - Lagerfield back on top
Conference 7 has always been one of the closest Conferences, and once again the competition seems to be really hard.
You all remember, not a long time ago, the time when Lagerfield was really dominating the server winning two of the majors in the same season. After two very bad seasons he is back on the top, and with 13 games played he had 8 points in the lead. A great advantage for the second half, and the team seems to be in great form.
Last season champion, Blue Star Knights hasn´t give up yet, and he is leading a group of 6 teams who are on Lagerfield trail.
There is a big confusion in the battle for relegation. Scammonden Daoists is on the last place of the ICC spots, but he is also just two points away from the relegation zone. Really interesting.

Byron Park are managed by Richard French and are currently 2nd in 3-1-1.He has an impressive trophy cabinet that includes an ICC and Elite Cup wins.The West Yorkshire Boys are managed by Richard Hird although there is a caretaker manager in place for the next 7 weeks due to travel arrangements.There is an ever-expanding trophy cabinet at the Boys and he has appeared in the final of a Champions Shield and an Elite Cup,both times ending as a runner-up.I have to go with home advantage and it's Byron Park for me.
Other ties where the favourites may have problems include Blue Dream vs UNIV. CRAIOVA,Giants vs Blue Star Knights and Dynamo Valley vs Floriana FC.Although i can't really see any of them losing.

With Dave’s permission I am going to give a little insight to his team Hollowlegs the current Conference 1 Champions. As you can see they are sitting in a strong position in 3rd only 3 points behind the leaders Super Imps who have had a great start to the season. Since joining the Smokey server Dave has found it as difficult as the rest of us to lift the conference title and his finishing positions of 3rd, 2nd,3rd,9th,9th then Champions last season shows how tough this conference can be. As well as winning 1-1-1 Dave won the Smokey Doubles A-6 as well as the overall Smokey doubles pl which was a great achievement with the strength of the teams involved. They also seem to enjoy great success in certain PL’s with the Ravens Nest being one of them lifting the title 8 times if my maths is correct. In the FL they have won FL3 and FL2 in their conquest to reach the ultimate FL1. Currently they sit in 9th 10 points off of the leaders but only 5 away from the drop zone !

Dave has varied his squad purchases so that they do not all need replacing at the same time but he is currently going through a massive rebuild with 4 new players already purchased and around 5 players needing to be replaced at some point throughout the season. The players he has bought seem to be star players and this manager must feel like Mancini the way he must be burning money . All I can say is have you got any jobs going at your place Dave? Since my move to smokey Dave has been one of the main characters with the Crazy Cups and Walker v’s Winter battles. So I wish Dave all the Luck and hopefully he can get a bit more time available to get the Crazy gang together again!

Smokey FL1 - Season 11 (Day 12)
Almost half of the season in the friendly league, and Biscuit Barrell has a small gap of 4 points in the top of thr table. Behind him a small group of 4 teams, separeted just by 4 points: Floriana, Bryron Park, Anfield and Arkansas.
On the bottom, American Misfits had a really bad start but now is recovering a lot. Still a bit far from escaping relegation but there are still a lot to be played.
Jedi Knights and Heroes of the Man are on relegation zone too.

Competition: The Best Conference
Sometimes, we wonder wich is the hardest conference of all. Its very easy to decide, its ours and that´s it...
So, i´ve decided to create another ranking, wich will give the same opportunities to all conferences. The competition to take in attention will be the Inter Conference Cup, a competition where all the Conferences start with the same number of teams, and will have to play against the teams from the other Conf.
Each team that reaches the quarters of the ICC will give a point to his Conference, and it will count only the last 5 seasons for this top.

The Rags managed by Biffy are 2nd in 2-1-1 and unbeaten.The Jakes managed by John'Merv'Bamford are 6th in 1-1-1 and are another team with an impressive trophy cabinet including a Champions Shield.I go for the Rags who although don't play as many games as a lot of other top teams seem to be in better form than the Jakes.
West Yorkshire Boys vs Anfield Rd Rangers
Richard's Boys are another team making their way to the top of the pile and are currently unbeaten in 4-1-3.He has already appeared in a Champion Shield and Elite Cup final unfortunately losing both times.Nick's Rangers need no introduction(if you haven't heard of them you must have joined SL yesterday).One of(if not) the best teams on SL he has 2 or 3 trophy cabinets overflowing with Cups including 2 Champions Shield,3 ICC and 3 Elite Cups.I beleive this will be the tie of the round and beleive the Yorkshire Boys can pull of a bit of an upset by winning.
MAD ONE vs Cubana Villains
Craig's MAD ONE had an excellent away win in the 1st round and is currently 7th in 4-1-1.The Villains are currently 4th in 2-1-1 after ten games and have only conceded 1 goal,although they have won their last 5 games.A difficult game to call but i go for the Villains who appear to be in a better run of form at the moment.

Chico's match of the round was Hoarse Whisperers vs MAD ONE.The first 60 minutes were boring and forgetable unlike the last 30 mins.Terence Frisk was the referee and the Whisperers who had played normal aggression from the start paid the price in the 61st min.Stevie Ireland was sent off for shirt pulling and 7 mins later Darius Lesgettham scored a brilliant solo goal.Worse was to follow as in the 88th minute with the Whisperers trying to find the equalizer James Milner was also sent off for shirt pulling,obviously Mr Frisk takes a dim view of it.Darius Lesgettham is credited with the 2nd goal although it was actually scored by his pet dog.

I.C.C. - Round 3
Today was played the third round of the I.C.C. I think that the surprise was the elemination of the Conf 5 Champion, Biscuit Barrell, at the hands of Ramsgate Reds thnaks to a goal in extra-time. Also in extra-time was the goal that Anfield Rd Rangers scored to beat The Jakes, and thanks to that they are on the quarters.

This was an all Dave Walker affair and as such there were no AT's at all.The game was decided in the 65th minute when Ed Ible scored with an incredible lob from the corner flag.
West Yorkshire Boys 2 - 0 Hoarse Whisperers
After a dour and boring 1st half the match came to life in the 56th min when Crimson Chin scored.The Boys completely dominated the 2nd half and in the 83rd minute Crimson Chin scored his and the Boys 2nd.
Blue Star Knights 2 - 1 West End Girls
This was an all 7-1-1 affair and interestingly the Knights played 5-2-3 longball while the Girls played 4-5-1 passing.The Girls just shaded the 1st half and 3 mins into the 2nd half Famke Janssen put them into the lead.5 mins later the Knights had equalised through Strife Cloud.The game was all square at 90 mins and extra time was called for.Fair Zack scored the golden goal in the 111th minute to see the Knights into the next round.

This was an all Dave Walker affair and as such there were no AT's at all.The game was decided in the 65th minute when Ed Ible scored with an incredible lob from the corner flag.

After a dour and boring 1st half the match came to life in the 56th min when Crimson Chin scored.The Boys completely dominated the 2nd half and in the 83rd minute Crimson Chin scored his and the Boys 2nd.
Blue Star Knights 2 - 1 West End Girls
This was an all 7-1-1 affair and interestingly the Knights played 5-2-3 longball while the Girls played 4-5-1 passing.The Girls just shaded the 1st half and 3 mins into the 2nd half Famke Janssen put them into the lead.5 mins later the Knights had equalised through Strife Cloud.The game was all square at 90 mins and extra time was called for.Fair Zack scored the golden goal in the 111th minute to see the Knights into the next round.

Hi all, just thought I would firstly introduce myself to you all. I currently manage two teams Chelseafc x, and South Shields. I like most have found it very difficult since the move to have a major impact on the server. i started my campaign in 1-1-1 with 1 team and wasted all my refunded credits on a very average team which I then moved to conference 3 where I am slowly moving up to the top tier! I inherited south shields a few seasons ago and have had to rebuild the squad costing a fortune :-) I am now able to beat most teams on my day but really struggle to find any consistency. Last season had highs and lows, I finished a poor 9th although a very difficult league but wanted a better finish. Winning FL5 and the conference cup was a high for me especially with so many strong teams in the 5th tier! A bit about me : I am 27 and come from Essex in England and up until 3 seasons ago was a Chelsea season ticket holder since the age of 6. I have 1 daughter (6 years old) and a baby due in 6 weeks time (scary)! I will be hoping to do a few reports on conference 1 and interviews with a few of the managers and then see if we can get a bit of banter back into the conferences, pl's and forums. Any ways sorry to go on and watch this space.

Friendly League - Season 11 - Day 5
Its the 5th day in the Friendly League, the hardest League around, so its time to take a look at the leagues.
On division 1 things are a little bit confused. On top, 5 teams are separated just by one point. American Misfits in the middle of a huge rebuild, havent acored any point, or even a goal. In the top 4 bottom places we can see Harricam, The Rods, Anfield, but its to soon. Lets see the tables from division 1.

Its been six days since the start of the season, so far. A few surprises, also a few teams only with wins, wich are: DonkaLonk Fc, Mmmrs Phoenix Pigs, Bush Wanderers and Biscuit Barrell.
The domination of Oxford University on Conf 6 was stopped by Im a Blade FC, and the new surprising leader its Russ with his Fivehundred or less. This league seems to be very competitive this season.
There are also a few good surprises with Kookaburra leading Conf 4 and Too Much Too Young leading Conf 8. A great start for faggy. Next game will put him against Arkansas Indians, second place in the league. I would say that this game will be hot.

Conference 6: Oxford University is on fire
Conference 6 in the past seasons has been a big battle between HarriCam and Hoarse Whisperers. This time the season has not start very well for those two, and the leader after 5 games is Oxford University managed by Anthony Jones.
5 games played, and 5 wins, outs him confortably at the top of the table, with two points in advance against Fivehundred or less. But the most important, 5 and 6 against the two favorites.
One of his greatest wins was against HarriCam, like you can see in the post below.
Anthony also is doing great in the ICC, where he passed to the next round after beating Rickys Rovers and super Imps. A Great start of the season like you see for Oxford University. Now the question is, can he give a good challange to the title? We will see in the next few days.
