Private Leagues: Creepshow Cups

Organized by baldy, also known as Marco Koen (not sure if he is cousin of the Coen Brothers) are the Creepshow Cups. Marco told us a little bit about this competition, let´s know what he has to say:

"When I started playing SL. My server these days was the Planetfootball server.
I had a team named Rosevalley S.Ks. Rosevalley stands for my hometown
Roosendaal, here in the Netherlands. S.Ks were my teamplayers, the Serial Killers.
When my team was up to challenge the big boys, I decided to launch
some cups. Don't have a history from those but some oldies will remember them.
Unfortunately the server closed before all cups were done.
When I came to the Benny server some months later and also build my squad, I decided to
open some Cup at that server. All players are Creepy sons of bitches, so Creeps F.C. was born.
Have a short history about those cups, cause once more the server had to close down.
History:

Dracula Cup, winner:SSP(former 2nd team from holmes, now playing Realale Madrid on Smokey

Hellraiser Cup, winner:Sporting Clube PT(also on Smokey now)

Halloween Cup, winner:C.R.Flamengo(like Jose also on Smokey and struggling on the TM at the moment)

The Hills have Eyes Cup, winner:Sporting Clube PT

Madman Cup, winner:Rickys Rovers(On Smokey as well, with username saxon)

Friday the 13th Cup, winner:Sporting Clube PT

Like you see, Jose was the man to beat on Benny. Great team, but also struggling on the
TM at the moment. Hope to see him soon in the Creepshow Cups.
Here on Smokey I decided to start all over, so some of the Cups are familiar for those
who know them.

Hope I'm able to finish them all and hope they can be competitive and fun.
The Creeps will invite you all to have some taste of blood and gore.

Like it was expected the two favourite teams won and reached the final. For the second time in a row we will have in the final Anfield Rd Rangers, and Sydney FC Hammers.
I´m happy for reaching the semis and good luck for both teams tomorrow.

Manager of the Season (66): Nick Jolley

Nick is the winner of the poll to decide wich was the manager of Season 66. He won with 22 votes against 10 from Chris Elmore. So he is the Manager of the Year.
Nick won The Elite Cup, ICC and his Conference with a large advantage. I believe it was his Elite cup final against Chris that decided the title.

Friendly League Interview: Mihai Stamate

Coming from Romania is Mihai. He has 29 years old and is natural from Bucharest. He is managing the team UNIV. CRAIOVA who will be for sure one of the favourites of group E. He would be one of the favourites anyway but managing a established team on Smokey since some seasons ago, for sure he will make some impact in his group.

What servers have you played before you joined Smokey Smokey?
I've played on fulham (where I had 4 teams), chelsea (3 teams) and mogzilla (1 team - I've joined this server at the same time as I joined smokey, about 18 months ago). I'm playing sundayleague from 2004.

Have you played in any league like this in the past? Wich results did you get?
I've played in very interesting league on Mogzilla (Lady Luck Cup)- all mogzilla users are familliar with it, I've reached the final group once, but not with great result as my team was in construction.

What are your expectations for this first season of the Friendly League and for the next few seasons coming?
I'm expecting to finish 1st or 2nd so I would qualify for the group A in the next season, but I will receive a hard competition from the others managers.
For the next season I'm expecting to build a very competitive team (I had few players with 10 season) that will allow me to stay in the first group.

Do you think this could be the most competitive league ever?
I'm convinced it will be.

Who do you fear most in your group?
Lionhearts, The Mothers, US Ebrohiques, Rickys Rovers and South Shields.

Who are the favourites in your group?
Lionhearts has a very good manager, but he needs to reconstruct his team, The Mothers and Rickys Rovers have both new managers which I saw they are doing well in privates league and conference, and with South Shields you'll never know.
US Ebrohiques to be the favourites in group E.

How many teams do you think will join in the future?
I think this league will have about 120-150 in the future.

Friendly League Interview: Denis Burke

Denis is at the same time one of the new guys and a established manager. He changed Conference after his fellows from Oscar decided to join Conference 4.
Denis is the manager of INTER STELLA D.C, a team that have great possibilities of reaching division 1 next season in Friendly League. Manofthebeer is the username and he will fight to win group D.

What servers have you played before you joined Smokey?
Oscar...My first love.
Smokey for a while now as well, thankfully before the server closures!

Have you played in any league like this in the past?
The Flame(Ice, Ash, Smoulders, Flame) series on Oscar.
And a few Smokey Friendly leagues
Which results did you get? 1st in Smokey Friendly League
Group 2 , I think? And 5th in SFL Prem Season59?
A few promotions on The Oscar versions. But I think I suffered relegation to Smoulders in our final attempt.

What are your expectations for this first season of the Friendly League and for the next few seasons coming?
I hope to qualify to play with the big boys and girls next season in the prem division.
I along with everone else will dream of winning this at some point in our SL career!

Do you think this could be the most competitive league ever?
Definately!!!! Now that the extended histories have been posted, the quality of the managers now on this one server is outstanding.
I think it will be very, very tough just to stay in an X-1-1 within a few seasons-never mind win it!
And the same will be true of this competition.

Who do you fear most in your group?
I dont fear anyone to be honest, it's not life or death lol.

Who are the favourites in your group?
Probably the managers who had a chance to establish a team on Smokey before the chaos struck the servers.
But this is only down to player stats at the moment, this will change over the course of this season of course.
But there are also some very experienced managers, with a hell of a lot of Major trophies between them immigrating from the other servers. who in all liklyhood, will outwit others with adv. tactics.

How many teams do you think will join in the future?
Hard to tell, hopefully another 2 or 3 divisions next season.

Friendly League Interview: Stuart Woods

One of my buddies from the benny server, Stu is always a manager up to battle for everything. In Benny he was on the hardest conference, wich he managed to win in one of the last seasons.
Stuart is 31, and lives in Bapchild Kent, England. With his team Super Jays (thewoods) he will battle in group A.

What servers have you played before you joined Smokey?
Mainly Benny, but i had a spell on Planet Footie and a 2 week stink on manu server before it shut down. But im a great believe of only having the 1 team so i gave up planet footie.

Have you played in any league like this in the past? Wich results did you get?
BML on Benny server managed 3rd twice in premiership but spent most of my time in top league battling to stay in it. Got relegated once which for me was 1 of the most exciting BMLs i ever played in.

What are your expectations for this first season of the Friendly League and for the next few seasons coming?
Not sure really, think its going to be very difficult as theres lots and lots of great managers out there, but my teams is starting to come together. I'll try my hardest to get into top league but realistically 2nd tier is for me.

Do you think this could be the most competitive league ever?
Yeah theres lots of teams out there that have built a squad at same time so its gonna be even stevens in that department. So yeah very competetive.

Who do you fear most in your group?
Myself going out on the lash and chucking 3 points away the next day :-) Seriously tho theres not many teams i recognise so i'm gonna have to say you (chico).

How many teams do you think will join in the future?
Not sure, depends on how things settle down, theres alot of unhappy managers out there, but im sure theres the potential to have 10 leagues if people stick it out.

Anything else you want to say about this?
Yeah I hate Edinburgh Eagles...worst team on SL. haha

Friendly League Interview: Alek

After a break he made from the game Alek is back in business, and managing the team Her Majestys Finest, he will be playing on group C.
Alek is natural from Brussels, Belgium and he is 17 years old.

What servers have you played before you joined Smokey?
a few years back I used to play on the spurs server but then I left and only rejoined a month or so ago.

Have you played in any league like this in the past? Wich results did you get?
Nope I haven't.

What are your expectations for this first season of the Friendly League and for the next few seasons coming?
I think the first season should be great because everyone's got something to play for. Even if you're in mid-table you're still going to be battling to get into as high a division as possible. Another good thing should be that in the coming seasons managers should be playing against people of their own level. Normally in every PL there's one or two big fish but in this case it shouldn't be like that.

Do you think this could be the most competitive league ever?
I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

Who do you fear most in your group?
Sydney FC Hammers. The Jakes, the Rods and Spartak are all great teams from what I know as well. No doubt there are other good teams in there that I just haven't heard of yet.

Who are the favourites in your group?
Me of course!But seriously:probably Sydney FC Hammers to win it. I really don't know though.

How many teams do you think will join in the future?
As the league grows in prestige hopefully it'll get to a point where almost every manager is participating in it.

Champions Shield Final: The Rumour Mill 2-0 Wolverton Town (Season 66)

After wining the Managers Table but losing the Elite Cup, Chris was needing to win one of the big Cups to end his wonderful season.
He failed on the Elite Cup against Nick, but he had a good chance on the Champions. His opponent was last season winner of the Conference 7, Wolverton Town. A team with much worse stats than The Rumour Mill, but somehow he managed to get to the final.
It was a game for longball and both teams used 5-2-3, the most balanced formation to play in this style.
In fact it was a game very close in tactics. The Mill just had 30 minutes if advantage between minutes 15 and 45 and that was enogh to win the game.
Two goals that came for the best team of the game, one with the advantage and the other with equals.
Congratulations to Chris.

Elite Cup Final (Season 66) - Anfield Rd Rangers 2 - 0 The Rumour Mill

This was going to be a hell of a game. The best two teams of the season side to side fighting for one of the most prestigeous cup.
Nobody changed at the start of the game, and Anfield started with a advantage that was crucial to win the game.
He scored the first goal at minute 24 with advantage and after this they played both with the same tactics for the rest of the game.
Andfield scored his second goal on the second half, but nothing to do to Rumour. A fair win for the best team in the field.
Anfield Rd Rangers won his second Elite Cup in a row, will he do it again next season?

Interview with Chris Elmore, manager of The Rumour Mill

First of all, we have to say congratulations to Chris, because he won the managers table last night. But he can do more, with the managers table he can also win the Champions and Elite Cup. Tonight he will try to stop Anfield Rd Rangers from wining his second major cup of the season.
Lets read what the current number 1 have to say about all of his moment.

How does it feel to be on the top of all the Sunday League world?
It is definetly 1 of my main achievements in the game, and going undefeated in the season was great.

Was is hard to win this Conference with so many points in the lead?
There must be six managers who on their day could have beat me home or away, so not to lose a game with all the good teams in conference 3 is a major achievement for me. I dont think i will have a season like this for some time, whenever i logged on after a game, not only did i win but the gap got bigger.

You still have The Elite and Champions Cup final, you think you can do the perfect season and win all?
It would be great to win the two trophies but they will be tough games. I have confidence that I can do it, it will be a major step today playing the very tough anfield rd rangers.

What do you think about the competition at the moment, will be possible to do a season like this in the future?
It will be very tough to do this in the future, particularly with all the good teams who have come over from other servers, as they will be in the champs shield next season with good squads. I have already seen these treams beating some quality smokey originals.

What was your best season until now, this one?
About two years ago the server had a champs league which i won, it had about 32 teams of the best on the server. Around this time i won back to back champs shield. I have had some quiet seasons where i have achieved little so winning my league last season and this season along with reaching 2finals has maybe made this my best season.

Your game against Anfield Rd Rangers could be a big game that could decide what was the best team of the season. What do you think about him?
He is a top manager, the server had a smokey league a few seasons ago and we both finished in the top5 so i know it will be a tough game. I have though not played him many times so this will be our biggest game for sure.

Interview with Nick Jolley, manager of Anfield Rd Rangers

Nick have already won one of the major this season, and now he can win the second. Let´s know what he have to say.

Nick, you and your opponent are doing the perfect season. Both of you could win 2 of the major Cups. For that both need to win this game, what do you think about your opponent? You think you can do it?
What can say about the Rumour Mill and Chris Elmore?
Well the ‘Mill have been one of the best sides on Smokey for as long as I’ve been here and Chris is one of the Smokey legends and should certainly be spoken of in the same breath as Steve, Ty and Ron. His record speaks for itself. Brilliant team stats and Tactical excellance = one hell of a side.
Can we win tonight? Yes we can, but there is absolutely no room for error. Fortunately all my team are in tip top condition and it looks as though the Mill had a war in their last game and picked up a few injuries. That said, I would say they are favourites. Experience counts for alot and they’ve been in many more finals than we have!

Was it hard to win your Conference with so many points in the lead?
2-1-1 was weaker this season with Inter Stella moving to pastures new, but with Spartak, Beticos, Kelly’s and BBZ in the same division it’s never easy. Unlike the previous season where we drew with Kelly’s and BBZ both games, this year we managed to win them all. I was a little more positive in my AT’s this season with more emphasis on “If Winning” than I have in the past and it seems to have worked.

You think you can do a season like this in the near future?
In my dreams maybe!! But no, not a chance. The major cup competitions will be extremely competitive next season with all the new guys getting their sides sorted and 2-1-1 will be stronger with the promotion of Reject City.

What was your key moment this season?
Hhhmmm, not sure really. When we beat BigBobbyZorro I knew we had a chance of winning the conference as this was the side I tended to drop points against. The final of the ICC was great. Shame I couldn’t beat Steve in the final of the World Cup as a quintuple would have looked pretty tasty on the SundayLeague CV.

Elite Cup Final preview

I believe this will be the match of the season, and could define who will be the best manager of season 66.
Face to face there are the best two teams of the season. Or lets see:
Anfield Rd Rangers - Won Conference 2 with a big advantage; Won ICC; Runner Up on the World Cup and still can win Elite Cup.
The Rumour Mill - Won Conference 3 with 13 points in the lead; Won the managers table; still can win Elite and Champions Cup.
Both of them can win two major cups this season but they have to win tonight. Who will win tonight? I´ve made a interview to both, to see what they are thinking about this game.

Final games of Conference 5 and 8

The division games ended last night, there were two Conferences that were depending of the last results. Suspense until the end, it looked like a Hitchcock movie. Today i will not talk much about how the Conferences ended, unless this two, but soon i will post the standings of every x-1-1 and also the other official tables.
Here´s how it ended:
Conference 5 - ELMAN FC 0 - 1 Xanoka FC: the title goes for the portuguese team. I hope many others win in the near future, haha.
Conference 8 - Lionhearts 0 - 3 Corinthian Clowns: Ty teached a lesson to Lionhearts and is the new champion of the 8th Conference.
Tonight we will concentrate on the Elite Cup final, wich will be the match of the season.

Friendly League Interview: Chris Miller

Chris is from Yorkshire near Hull - Hull city fan. He´s 33yrs, and have been playing this game for about 6 years, although not that active in the last year - just kept logging in to keep his account alive.
Managing the team Hadlands, with the username ptv2ralfie you can find him somewhere in group C.

What servers have you played before you joined Smokey?
Ptv2 was my main server - been on there for all of my time on sl. I have also had very breif stints on smokey (twice before), pf, newcastle and ptv3

Have you played in any league like this in the past? Wich results did you get?
On ptv2 I helped start and run what we called our 'conference cup'. This was to see which was the strongest conference and was run each season and the top 2 from each x-1-1 entered it. It was a league format and the 2 teams from each conf clubbed their points together to get a conference total - a bit like the doubles comp at the moment - but with your conference partner.

What are your expectations for this first season of the Friendly League and for the next few seasons coming?
I want to finish in the top half of the table - thus getting into either division 1,2 or 3. Then to work my way up to division 1.

Do you think this could be the most competitive league ever?
Yeah, i think it will.

Who do you fear most in your group?
No-one, I'm just looking forward to the competition and the banter.

Who are the favourites in your group?
I think sydney fc hammers should be one of the favourites

How many teams do you think will join in the future?
We could easily get 150-200 because its all people will be talking about and everyone will want a piece of the action, so, who knows maybe 400 teams?!?!?!

Anything else you want to say about this?
I'll have to hurry up to get a full squad together for the comp. But since I've had 11 new players in my team (about 1 week) I've started to pick up a few results in the doubles comp - 7 points out of 12 available, picking up results against 'kickstart', 'the Elite' and 'coulsdon casuals'. Which, to say I only spent between 500cr - 2700cr on each player isn't too bad.

It was one of the best private leagues in the old Piggy server. Organized by Smogger aka Ante Konsuo, was always a league to be if you were one of the top guys.
Next one should have been 20th edition of this league, but server closure stoped Ante of creating it.
Basically, this league has a list of members and they will always have their place reserved, who ever they are. They can drop out of the league at any time but only by their own will.

Several private leagues have finished last few days. Lets take a look about they ended, i´m sorry if i forgot someone.

Champions Shield semi-finals - Season 66

Last thursday were played the semi-finals of the Champions Cup.
One of the games was between two of the most experienced teams in the server. The Rumour Mill reached his second major in this season beating Kookaburra, in a game with a little lucky for Rumour Mill as you may see in the report.
On the other game there were two teams that never reached any final, so no matter who won it there was going to be a team in a major final for the first time.
Let´s see the results:

Wolverton Town 2 - 1 CSKA Sofia
The Rumour Mill 2 - 0 Kookaburra

Stronger in stats and experience i guess The Rumour Mill is the favourite for this game, but in Sunday League we never know...

Friendly League interview: John Rickman

Another manager i know very well from Benny and planetfootball. And another one that i consider between the best. On benny he beat last two times in a row in ICC, first on the semi-final and the second on the final. Time for revenge lol. Kidding Ricky.
John is 48, and is natural from Southampton. With the username Saxon (is it because of the music band?) he is managing the team Rickys Rovers on group E.

What servers have you played before you joined Smokey?
I have been playing on benny Conf 8 since February 2005, started at the very bottom, got promoted every season and won Conf 8-1-1 at its best,had a few seasons on Planet Football but found running 2 sides a bit difficult with work commitments so concentrated on the benny team.

Have you played in any league like this in the past? Wich results did you get?
I have played in the BML on benny, probably the most competative league on the benny server for a long time, finished runners up two seasons running, but never won it.

What are your expectations for this first season of the Friendly League and for the next few seasons coming?
The first season is about to start, some very tough opponents in group E, but will give it my best shot, guess I would hope to finish in the top 8, once the leagues are sorted after that I would be hoping that my team, and tactics will be strong enough to get me into the top flight.

Do you think this could be the most competitive league ever?
Yes, if all the managers stay and remain competative I think it will be awesome, cant wait, think this is where we should find out who is the best manager in a few seasons time when everyone has their respective squads running properly.

Who do you fear most in your group?
Thats a tough call, there are a few established managers/teams in this group, and a few old sparring partners from benny, I think the teams entering this competition will be up for it and difficult to beat, but fear, on my day I should'nt fear anyone, however that day isn't here yet, so it would be all the established teams at the momment.

Who are the favourites in your group?
Lionhearts, Andor(if they stay),UNIV. CRAIOVA, and South Shields, I think

How many teams do you think will join in the future?
A lot, this league is for the best to prove themselves

Anything else you want to say about this?
I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who was involved in organising, and setting this league up, great job, and to wish everyone competing in it good luck, except when you play me ;-)

Friendly League interview: Marco Koen

Marco will do 36 years old very soon and is natural from Roosendaal, Netherlands. I can say that i meet him some years ago when i first joined the English server, and he is one of the best i meet. He´s always trying to be funny, but i think sometimes he can´t lolol.
Marco is managing the team Creeps F.C. with the user Baldy, and he is on Group E.

What servers have you played before you joined Smokey?
Played on PF with the teams, Rosevalley S.Ks, The Sharks and LegionforweareMany.
Also played on benny with Creeps F.C.

Have you played in any league like this in the past? Wich results did you get?
I suppose you refer to the FL? If so, I played with the S.Ks on PF. 3rd place was my best result in the highest division, also played it on benny. Just got promoted to the highest division just before they closed down the server

What are your expectations for this first season of the Friendly League and for the next few seasons coming?
Don't expect to be succesfull the first season cause still building on my team. Like to be competitive in the next few seasons

Do you think this could be the most competitive league ever?
With so many experienced managers, it's got to be

Who do you fear most in your group?
Haven't analysed my opponents yet. Don't fear anyone if I get my team build up strong

Like I said in the question before :P

How many teams do you think will join in the future?
We have 5 divisions so far. Think another one can be an option in the future. Don't know how many managers still haven'r registered on smockey

Conference 8: Sharks Teeth 0 - 2 Lionhearts

This was going to be really a big game, a win for the Sharks would put them in the race for the title, but a loose will take him the chances out. A game of nerves fdor both managers for sure.
Lionhearts didn´t win his Conference for 21 seasons and the Sharks were for the first time on the toppest division of Conference 8.
Lionhearts dominated almost all the game with the advantage and scored the first goal in the first half. The second came in equals, but after 45 minutes of Lionhearts dominating the game. Fair win.

Conference 4: C.D. Usagre 2-0 Kookaburra

This was going to be the game of the title for Conference 4. 2 points separating both teams but the winner of this game would be almost for user the winner of the Conference. After winning 9 times in a row the Conference Kookaburra was the favourite. But Usagre has been a great surprise across the season, especially after reaching the final of the ICC, and he got the 3 points.
This time he used 5-2-3 for longball and his results were better.
He had a player slightly out of position, but his opponent was much more punished after minute 48 when a midfielder came for the wrong position.
A close game but Usagre won and is ready to win the Conference 4 for the first time.

Friendly League interview: Nij Insky (AKA Dave)

Its not everyone that have on his history 10 major cups won in the past. Dave is one of them, and did it on tabby, his first server where he was playing since 2005.
Dave manages the team Hoarse Whisperers (nijinsky), and will battle in this league on group A. Dave is natural from Stockport.

What servers have you played before you joined Smokey?
I played with a group of friends on Tabby and was fairly successful. Won a few majors including a full sweep a few seasons ago

Have you played in any league like this in the past? Wich results did you get?
We had friendly leagues on Tabby. I don't remember winning any though :)

What are your expectations for this first season of the Friendly League and for the next few seasons coming?
Try for Top Ten and then promotion from Div 3 or 4

Do you think this could be the most competitive league ever?
Once the TM settles and squads start improving then yes it will be a dog fight

Who do you fear most in your group?
All of them but my own team continuing to go out on the razz and breaking their backs are my biggest concerns at the moment.

Who are the favourites in your group?
NFI but it ain't me !

How many teams do you think will join in the future?
I think it will cap out at around 500 :)

Anything else you want to say about this?
Any server like this needs people prepared to put in the time and effort to make comps work so I'd like to thank you for putting this together.
I'd like to see more emphasis put on training players rather than this buy the best scenario. A more random approach to training should be better rewarded rather than the Corners/Jogging most seem to favour.

Friendly League Interview: Dave Weir

Dave Weir is one of the established managers that has joined this Friendly League. Natural from Bristol he is almost 60 years old and is ready to battle for the top places of group E. His team is called Sharks Teeth and he have got the username pellinor. Dave reached this season to the top Division of Conference 8, where he just lost the chances for the title last night. Dave also played on Arsenal and Piggy servers.

What servers have you played before you joined Smokey?
I played on Arsenal and Piggy.

Have you played in any league like this in the past? Wich results did you get?
We had Sadams Flame League on Arsenal which was similar to this.It had three divisions in its heyday. I made it to the top division eventually but it was so tough and I always struggled.

What are your expectations for this first season of the Friendly League and for the next few seasons coming?
Well I just want to survive.I suppose I,m luckier than some in that I already had a team on Smokey but I hadn't invested in it and it is an aging team.

Do you think this could be the most competitive league ever?
I certainly do,what with so many top class managers it's going to be really hard.

Who do you fear most in your group?
I don't actually fear anyone,but I do know that anyone can beat me.

Who are the favourites in your group?
At this stage I don't think there are any favourites.

How many teams do you think will join in the future?
Hard to say, I see that there is a waiting list already.

Elite Cup semi-final: The Rumour Mill 2 - 0 Xanoka FC

Chris Elmore was trying to reach his 10th major final in Smokey and Alexandre Soares was trying to reach his first. It looks like experience won this game.
In the first half both teams changed tactics several times and none of them had more than 15 minutes in a row with advantage. This way 0-0 at half time was not a strange result at half time.
Second half started with The Rumour Hill in the front on tactics all the way. After 22 minutes in the lead Rumour scored his first goal and almost won the game. A mistake for Xanoca, changed tactics two times because of the goal and continued with the same tactic. Ansl entered 3 strikers, two of then for the wrong position, because he didn´t changed formation. Chris had the avantage so he scored the second goal.
Chris is in the final, with a fair win.

Elite Cup semi-final: C.D. Usagre 0 - 2 Anfield Rd Rangers

Both of these teams meet again in just a few days in so important games, and once again the win gone for Nick. It seems that Usagre did not have 3 strikers to play on the front, so Antonio opted for 5-3-2. I don´t believe very much that is a good formation to play in logball but it was his only option.
First half was really close, Nick had advantage in the last 15 minutes, but not enough to score.
The second half started with CA vs CA, but Usagre had really bad luck when the goal came for Anfield. Maybe because of the stronger formation he scored the first goal.
Losing with a goal with equal tactics Usagre changed and became with disavantage. Last 30 minutes gone for Nick that scored the second goal.
Well done Nick for another great win.

Friendly League interview: Peter Armstrong

Peter is playing this game in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and he gave us maybe te best interview until now. He hasn't played in many leagues like this one, but looking at his results since he joined Smokey, i think he could have a good surprise in the end of his group.
He is 59 years old and has arrived from Oscar, Chelsea and Newcastle servers. Dalkeith FC(herrqlys) is the name of his team and you can find him on group C.

What servers have you played on before you joined Smokey?
Oscar (23 seasons as Haltwhistle Harriers, then Dalkeith FC)
Newcastle (22 seasons as Windy Nook FC)
Chelsea (19 seasons as Three Lions)
The team names all have some ancestral significance, however obliquely. I was born in Gateshead, England, emigrating to Canada in 1957 (I didn’t do this all on my own, though). My father’s family originated in the central Borders. My mother’s came from Midlothian: Musselburgh to Newtongrange, and places in between.

Have you played in any league like this in the past? What results did you get?
The World Cups on Oscar were the only competitions I’ve ever played that had a format even closely resembling this Smokey Friendly League setup. And the rabid types on Oscar only let me get out of the group stage once, briefly.
I've never really played a lot of competitions outside of divisional play for most of my time on Sunday League. To my earlier understanding of things, friendlies meant games for experimenting with new players, or different formations, and to obtain extra training. I’d never thought of the term "friendly" as meaning anything vitally competitive (unless I just really wanted to try and win against a particular team).

What are your expectations for this first season of the Friendly League, and for the coming seasons?
I'd like to preface my answer with some context. My stage of development at Sunday League is well below where it should be for the 3½ years I've been on, as I've been a casual participant for a lot of my time. It's been only in the last 15 months that I've become more a student of the game, and I've had to unlearn some very wrong assumptions. I want to know how much progress I've made.
I'm really excited about the current Friendly League format, and doubly so because of the apparent calibre of teams entered. The chance to play some very, very good teams in serious competition will let me know where I stand at the moment.
Currently I'm in 4-1-3 for my inaugural season on Smokey, and there are only 3 of us that seem to be giving it a real go for the division, so it's hard to know what that means in the larger arena.
I expect to learn a lot about my individual players from the upcoming Friendly League round, and how successful my approach to tactics is at the moment. I'm in Group C, and the other teams are run by experienced, ambitious managers. There'll be no such thing as an easy game. EVERY game will be like a cup final.
As the Friendly League extends into more seasons, there'll be more current history available about the teams entered. Everybody will know lots more about the other teams and their style. No surprises; no ambushes. It will be WAR.

Do you think this could be the most competitive league ever?
Absolutely. Smokey is now home to all the avid managers from around the old SL network of servers. It's a melting pot of styles, formations, tactics and everything else. If you don't learn something new about the game from playing this lot, you're simply not paying attention.
In theory, the Smokey Friendly League may be THE toughest competition ever staged on Sunday League. It will feature most of the crème de la crème of managers. It's a pity that not everyone became aware of it sooner, and that there are only 5 starting divisions because then ALL the best would be in. For example, there are some excellent teams on the Substitutes roster.
As it stands, there are 80 entrants from something like 3,500 available managers (I had to guess at the server population). That's just over 2% of Smokey's managers. Most managers wouldn't have entered unless they felt somewhat worthy. And none of them want to lose.

Who do you fear most in your group?
Oh, man...all of them. I've already played some of the teams in my group, I know others by reputation, I've noticed many other names from various table standings and Private League results, and I’ve come to know some personalities through Forum posts. This is a tough, tough group and I really start from scratch in getting a book on many of the teams. The additional wild card in things is that many managers are still building their teams. A good team can become a great team with only 2 or 3 key player additions.

Who are the favourites in your group?
Sydney FC Hammers, Spartak, YourHavingaLaff F.C, The Rods. They're all in the Managers Table top 64 at the moment. But as I mentioned, this could all drastically change as managers continue to develop their new squads. I'll be happy with a mid-table finish, though, given what I'm up against. And I can dream! Carpe diem.

How many teams do you think will join in the future?
I predict that the current Friendly League competition will get a tremendous amount of attention. The Forum posts about league standings and goings-on will be widely read. As play develops with what I expect to be fierce competition and new rivalries, anyone not in the competition this time will be salivating to get in next time.

I would just like to extend my personal thanks to you, Chico, and all the others who got this league to where it is. There’s a real spirit of community to this competition, as well. Your energy and commitment in making this possible is greatly appreciated.
